Hot Tip #5 - Wedding Favours

To wedding favour or not to wedding favour - that is the question!

Wedding favours are a tradition tracing back hundreds of years to around the sixteenth century.  At this time they were called bonbonniere.  A bonbonniere was a small, intricate trinket box made of porcelain or crystal and sometimes embedded with precious metals which was filled with sugar cubes or some sort of confectionary. Sugar cubes? Seems a little off but at the time, sugar was only affordable by the wealthy, so giving this to your wedding guests symbolised how wealthy and generous you were.

Here at Planned it! we love to ensure your wedding isn't a huge expense and rather a celebration where you have no need to stress - but hey! if you have the means to provide a little gift, why not?

A list of things we would suggest you think about prior to committing to providing all of your guests with Wedding Favours:

  • Cost per person?

  • Is it going to benefit the day?

  • Will it affect your styling?

  • How large are your favours?

  • What would you do with it if you received it?

  • Do these favours appeal to all guests?

  • Does the packaging cost additional?

  • How will it go being transported in peoples luggage?

Wether you've got your heart set on having wedding favours or you're impartial, below we have some ideas that might ignite some thoughts!

2-in-1?

One idea we really love are edible wedding favours! Why not get a cookie which can be used as the place card and a pre or post dinner treat? Something additional to think about is whether or not your guests are going to have room to fit dessert in? We find most of the time post dinner, guests are way too excited to get on the d-floor to pay attention to the beautiful cake you have cut for dessert or the additional course you have paid for.

Take away a memory

One thing we love is a Photo Booth! Not just for a bit of entertainment during the night, to dress up like an atrocious bride or to watch everyone whilst they're getting their photos taken but to take home a momento! Not only do you get to have a heap of fun but your guests get to take home a fun photo of themselves to remember your day. The guys at @thefranklybooth have made an open air photobooth with so many cool features. Would recommend!

Thinking About the Environment

We will try not to get to passionate and serious but lets be real - we need to think consciously about the environment before we fail it! A few items we love that work with our environment and not against it.

Ivy & Wood have a beautiful range of soy candles which, once completely burnt down, can be reused in so many ways! Keep cup, mug, container, candle holder.. etc. Not only do they smell amazing but they can also be personalised with your names, date or whatever you would like!

SUCCULENTS! We love them, you love them and hey - now you can give them to all your guests! Either wrap them in some brown paper, put them in a little pot or provide seeds for guests to sow themselves

One thing we hope you can take away from this post is that you are to do your day how you wish! We also want to add that if you are still confused as to what to do, walk away, think about it and hey! If you don't want to offer just one thing, why not have a table with an array of different gifts where guests can do a lucky dip?? change it up!

Much love to everyone!
