To Wedding Planner or not to Wedding Planner

Without this blog sounding like a sales pitch.. I mean, if you’re sold then amazing!!.. I constantly get asked the same question from friends, family, colleagues and the occasional enquiry - “why do you need an event planner? Surely it’s not that hard?!”..

It’s a topic I could rattle on and on about because let’s face it, it’s my fulltime career, my part time love and something I have always been so passionate about!

I remember being in my early teens talking to friends about weddings and what we want, where we want to get married and our ideal husband/wife.. I could never really put my finger on what I wanted, I just knew I wanted it to be simple for myself although I would start designing elaborate plans for my friends and getting excited about everyone else’s big day.

From those days I knew I was going to be in some sort of planning position where I could make others dreams and days come true. I was lucky my brother was so much younger than me so could plan amazing parties with my mum! (Too bad he’s now in his early teens and just wants to play xbox with mates..).

So let’s get into it - reasons why I think you need an event planner, especially on your wedding day!

BUDGET

As mentioned in our floral blog we have engaged couples saying they want the entire venue covered in flowers yet don’t realise the costs involved. We do this “planning thing” day in and day out, almost off the top of my head I can help you with your budget and ensure we utilise your money effectively.

Most planners will include a budgeting tool within their complete planning services. Better yet they will most likely look after the whole thing! Your planner will take control of your budget to ensure your needs are met and you have that bit extra remaining to splurge on the nicer wine or those stunning shoes you wanted #treatyourself

One of our key analogies is that you go to a bank/financial planner when looking for big financial decisions, you’re likely to email or call a travel consultant to assist with your extensive trips overseas, your wedding day shouldn’t be the compromise.

INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

The wedding and event business is a small-ish community. If you want a balloon installation and head to google to find one, you’re going to be inundated with pages and pages of people supplying them. From Susie in her backyard to a fancy styling company. We are here to ensure you’re getting the right supplier and quality necessary. (speaking of balloons.. Kady at Fancy Schmancy is amazing!).

We also understand venues and how vendors operate to ensure you’re not a deer in headlights. You may be wanting a floral installation hung from the ceiling of your venue yet haven’t asked the questions to ensure the installation is possible! Trust me, I’ve been setting tables at a venue (was not a planner at the time, just a fabulous waitress) when the florist walked in with an installation to be hung from the ceiling.. there was quite literally nowhere to hang this installation apart from the front deck of the venue.. you can imagine the panic that was endured and the time which was wasted because the pre planning stages weren’t considered - that’s why we are here!

You talk to a builder when building a house, you go to a doctor when you’re unwell, you see a masseuse when you want a massage... just like these professions - we are one of the same! You go to a planner to plan your event/wedding.

TIME

Working all week, the last thing you want to do is spend your evenings and weekends searching for venues, balloons, table decor, flowers, favours, invitations.... TADA! It’s all completed for you!

We spend the time needed to get everything planned for your day. When paying for a planner to do the whole shebang, you're not just paying for them to be there on the day, you’re also paying for them to plan the entire thing from start to finish. We spend the hours on research, budget, run sheets, calling suppliers..

Even if you were to have a planner just on the day, that is someone to ensure all your suppliers arrive on time, your makeup artist arrives on time, your venue is set to the standard you expected, Aunty Mavis is sorted at her table with a glass of sav and you are enjoying your day to its full potential.

STRESS

Working in the industry you become resilient to stress (fellow planners get me yeah?). Yes we have our stressful days but this is something we crave and thrive on. Some call us crazy but that’s what we are here for!

The last thing you need is added stress to your planning stages and on the day. We’ve seen it time and time again where a couple plan to do it themselves, get flustered while trying to figure out how to tackle it all along with having to make the time to action all the tasks and then they realise they’ve missed X,Y,Z and it’s just too late. You simply don’t need the stress that planning an event can cause! Especially when we can stress for yo while you enjoy the celebrations!

We aren’t saying EVERYONE needs a wedding planner for the full wedding planning service, because some people out there a closet event planners and don’t even know until their own wedding! We are just saying that we are here for those that need the help! Whether it be just to set up your DIY venue, giving you some hot tips before you start planning or the entire process - we here at Planned It! Are there for you!
