As we always say, weddings are individual to the couple including which season you want to go with! You may want the coziness of Winter, or the heat of Summer – it is completely up to you and your partner! We’ve put together a list of pros and cons for the seasons from our perspective to get you thinking, along with a few hot tips to remember for each season.
Summer
Pros
With Summer comes less chance of rain, meaning your choice of venue is open to outdoor and indoor, beachside or mountainside. This is obviously debatable in some parts of the country as it is rainy season, but most of Australia you are all clear!
Dreaming of a beach wedding? Summer is your friend!
Extended hours of daylight
Partying into the evening with no freezing guests, then even better – spend the day after relaxing by a pool!
Cons
Let’s be honest, the heat is probably one of the biggest cons of a Summer wedding. Suits are EXTRA hot, the formal dresses are at risk of seat marks and sunburn is reaallll.
With Summer in Australia comes holiday season. This can cause a few issues including an increase of accommodation price, guest availability and guests financial pressure around this time.
Planned It! Hot Tips
Shade, whether it is natural from the trees, or if you need to hire additional umbrellas, marquee. Ensure your venues have a decent amount of shade and shelter available to relieve the heat and protect the skin!
WATER! Think about how you can increase the availability of water for your guests whether it is a station, bottles at the ceremony, water on reception tables or ask your bar service to have trays of beverages and water just to ensure your guests are hydrated.
Sunscreen. For you, your bridal party, your guests – you could even have a “Sun Safe Station” with umbrellas, water and sunscreen.
Avoid midday ceremonies – try pushing the day to the late afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day and to make the most of that afternoon delight for your photos.
Autumn
Pros
Warm with a cool breeze so your wedding dress wont need a jacket and your suits will be that little more comfortable
The colours! I have to admit the colours I absolutely love for a wedding are your earthy oranges, greens, bronze and cream which are just screaming Autumn
Generally low season for accommodation meaning there will be more available and more affordable
Cons
The night time temperature can be quite chilly so guests would need to prepare for the change
It is just after holiday season so guests could be feeling like going into hiding
Planned It! Hot Tips
Provide blankets or heaters for the evening if you know that its going to be a cold one
Give your guests plenty of RSVP time so they can pre-plan for the post holidays wedding
When finding your dress, think about how you yourself can stay warm throughout the day/night.
Winter
Pros
Bon fires and cozy nights
Increased availability for vendors and venues
Beautiful time for a lunchtime wedding
Accommodation is generally more affordable – although this is dependant on where. If you are choosing a beachside location in winter, accommodation = cheaper. If you are looking at hinterland in winter, most likely similar cost.
Black tie/formal dress
Comfort foods
Cons
Cold. Look, this may be a pro for some! But for the others, it is on the con list
Bridesmaids dresses and how they are going to stay warm
Increased potential for rain
Less daylight hours
Reduced floral availability
Planned It! Hot Tips
Just like Summer and ensuring enough shade, Winter you will need to look for ways of heat whether it be heaters, blankets, fires.. as long as it is warm!
Maybe consider an indoor venue rather than an outdoor venue so that you can control the temperature just that little bit more
Consider your bridesmaids and yourself! Think of jackets or long sleeves so that you are all comfortable throughout the day and not concerned about the weather
Spring
Pros
Weather (in my opinion) is PERFECT! Not too sweaty and not too chilly
Floral availability
No restrictions with indoor/outdoor venues, nor with your dress choices
Beautiful sunlight
Cons
EXTREMELY busy time for weddings - thanks to the above pros
Limited availability for venues, vendors and also guests
Increased rates for accommodation
Planned It! Hot Tips
If you are wanting a Spring wedding I would 10000% recommend getting in early with your venue, vendors and invitations as it is an extremely busy season.
Similar to Autumn, check your weather and ensure you have various options for water, blankets etc
Embrace the weather and the florals available - If it were my way it would be florals galore to embrace the Spring!
Liaise with a local hotel and see if you can organise a discounted rate for your guests
